Keybury contract gains boost CCTV business

Among recent contract wins worth £100,000, Keybury Fire & Security has completed new installations on behalf of two local manufacturers.

The company has upgraded the CCTV system at Kadel Engineering in Keighley and installed new CCTV, intruder and fire alarm and access control systems at Skipton-based Northern Paper Board.

From its 16,000sq ft facility in Ingrow Bridge Business Park, Kadel Engineering, a family-run company established in 1974, manufactures hi-tech precision machined parts for the defence, rail, aerospace, satellite, medical and optics industries across the UK, Europe, USA and Japan.

The upgrade to the firm’s existing CCTV system allows managing director Paul Rollins to remotely access and operate cameras while off site via his laptop or Smartphone.

He said: “Whenever I am away, it means I can keep a close eye on the building and machines externally and internally at any time of day or night. It is proving a very powerful tool, both in terms of improved security provision and the fact that I can keep tabs on unmanned machines we operate.”

The Northern Paper Board security package was key to a major expansion, development and investment programme at the firm’s headquarters in Engine Shed Lane, Skipton. The independent family company remains one of the largest stockists and manufacturers of solid board boxes for the food processing industry across the UK and Ireland.

Managing director John Curran said: “The new access control system enables us to restrict access to authorised personnel only, while CCTV allows us to monitor production and despatch, also ensuring that our hygiene and quality policies are adhered to. It’s all about making sure that we meet the standards both our customers and our staff have come to expect.”

Patrick Beebe, operations director of Keighley-based Keybury Fire & Security, said: ”Our CCTV business is currently running at an all-time high, with sales up 35%, driven both by strong demand and a growing awareness of bolt-on security benefits provided by modern-day technology.

“Companies and organisations need to be aware that CCTV installations should meet the latest British standards and stringent criteria required by the industry governing body, the National Security Inspectorate (NSI), through its ‘Gold Installer’ scheme.

“There are lots of security companies who fall short in both respects, so we strongly advise potential business and private users to thoroughly check their credentials before committing to CCTV and other security systems.”

Keybury Fire & Security, which also has regional offices in Skipton, Ilkley, Harrogate and York, is this year celebrating its landmark 30th year in business, making it one of the region’s longest established independent family-run security companies.

It is also making increasing use of social business networks, notably at facebook.com/keybury

Keybury’s security warning to metal thieves

Keybury operations director Patrick Beebe demonstrates the new CCTV technology that is helping to reduce instances of metal theft.

Keybury Fire and Security is helping to clamp down on metal theft.

Keybury reports high levels of demand for new technology that allows businesses and organisations to keep tabs on their premises, facilities and installations by linking CCTV cameras to Smartphones or iPads.

With spiralling instances of metal theft hitting the headlines, Keybury says a 35% increase in sales of CCTV systems can be put down not only to greater security awareness, but also major advances in state-of-the art bolt-on technology.

Operations director Patrick Beebe said: “New software compatible with Smartphones such as Apple iPhones, iPad, iPod Touch and Android mobiles have revolutionised the industry sector.

“With metal theft from business premises, churches, public utilities such as the rail network and broadband cable installations running an all-time high, those equipped with CCTV have a powerful deterrent.

“Users are now able to view real-time pictures via their mobile phones – and respond accordingly if they see anything suspicious.”

Keybury Fire and Security, which is this year celebrating its 30th anniversary, was one of the first companies in the region to offer the new technology.

Patrick explained: “People also need to be aware of increased pressure from insurance companies, particularly on firms who store metal outside. Insurers are now insisting that CCTV systems should comply with the latest British standard – BS8418-2010 – because of the boom in metal theft. It guarantees a police response. Our systems are fully compliant with the standard.”

Keighley-based Keybury Fire & Security also has offices in Skipton, Ilkley, Harrogate and York.

Free workshops focus on fire risk assessments

Two leading authorities in fire safety provision and training are pooling their expertise to stage a series of free workshops aimed at extinguishing the confusion and complexities surrounding fire risk assessments, now a legal requirement for all businesses.

They are being run by Keybury Fire & Security and its specialist fire risk assessment arm Fire Key – the firm has offices in Keighley, Skipton, Ilkley, Harrogate and York – and Harrogate-based fire safety training company Steve Pepper Training Associates.

The first workshop is at Cold Cotes events centre at Felliscliffe, Harrogate, on Tuesday, July 19. Registration is from 9am.

All are aimed at business owners, senior health and safety personnel, HR managers and training budget holders.

Keybury and Fire Key director Dave Lalor’s seminar is geared to equip firms with the tools to ensure their businesses are – and stay – on the right side of the law, followed by fire extinguisher training, another legal requirement. Steve Pepper’s fire safety awareness presentation will help relevant personnel understand their roles and responsibilities.

Mr Lalor explained: “The Fire Safety Order requires that commercial premises must carry out a fire risk assessment to determine not only the risk to their own people from fire, but also that measures are taken to keep all people safe from fire while on their premises.

“In easily manageable premises, it is quite likely and practical that the owner or duty holder carries out the assessment. In more complex buildings, however, it is wise to consider employing a professional consultant.

“In England and Wales, Government guidance suggests that where buildings are more than four storeys high, then the duty holder should seek the advice of a competent person.

“Growing demands on companies to meet the requirements of the new legislation this year saw the creation of The Fire Risk Assessment Competency Council, but the simple fact is that many people have not yet grasped what they are they are supposed to be doing.

“In fact, the Fire & Rescue Service has estimated that 60% of UK businesses are failing current fire safety legislation and have warned that they intend to bring the full weight of the law to bear upon them. Companies are forewarned and the workshops are designed to redress the imbalance.”
