Fire safety legislation changed in October 2006 when the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order was introduced and affects all businesses in England and Wales.
The hinge-pin of the legislation revolves around ‘Responsibility’ and places huge emphasis on ‘The Responsible Person’.
If you’re unsure who that is within your organisation then here’s a few clues- If your title is employer, owner, CEO, proprietor, director, managing director then it’s you!
In addition any other person who has control over a premises is also regarded as responsible.
The fire-safety order requires all businesses in England and Wales to have a valid fire-risk assessment that complies with the legislation. It is acceptable to carry out your own assessments but if you lack the knowledge or just don’t want the responsibility then we are here to help.
