It states that ‘the responsible person’ must ensure that the premises and any facilities, equipment and devices provided in respect of the premises under this Order are subject to a suitable system of maintenance and are maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair.

BS5839:2002 states that “The period between visits to undertake inspection and service should be based upon a risk assessment but the maximum period between visits should not exceed six months.”

Keybury can design new systems to meet a prescribed grade (e.g. as required by an insurer, fire authority or building control) or takeover and maintain existing systems.

The BAFE rating follows Keybury’s Gold award by the National Security Inspectorate for both its intruder and fire alarm systems.

The responsible person within a business must do due-diligence when selecting a maintaining company and the easiest way to achive that is via third-party certification. The importance of which is highlighted by the recent prosecution of a fire alarm maintainer for failing to adequately maintain a system in a care home. (Read more details in our Blog).
